Mars, god of War.

It’s worth noting that, according to NASA, a human mission to Mars would cost about $40 billion. George Bush could, in other words, launch seven interplanetary invasions each year for less than he’s spending on Iraq.

Occupying Mars would be, of course, entirely insane. But considerably less so than the eye-poppingly bizarre campaign currently taking place in Iraq.

I'll be the first here to make a joke about needing to find WMD's on Mars. Perhaps al Queda has joined forces with Martians to undermine the Western way of life.

I want us to go to Mars. This would be awesome and to be blunt fantastic PR for the US if it works.

Mind you, why does it have to be the US. Sure, the EU missions haven't gone all that well in the past (anyone remember Beagle?) but with some time and money i'm sure they could fix themselves a brilliant ship.

Landing a man on Mars needs to be our priority. We need to start looking to the stars again.

We do need to find WMDs on Mars. If we don't then they'll use their heat rays on us!

All jokes aside, why do we need to go to Mars? If it is only for PR, like the lunar landings, then it's a waste of time and money - money that could be spent on food and finding energy alternatives. Of course the overrun could be worth it, after all we have microwaves and sunglasses as a result of the lunar missions.

We need to go to Mars because this planet will not last much longer, in a galactic time frame.
